Kleptomania

Is there a link between this and ASD?

I know how many mental health conditions can occur in pe with ASD. Likely because of all the stress and pressure we're constantly under.

I have ASD and so does my brother. Lately I noticed he's got loads of cds and books in his room and I'm wondering if he's got kleptomania. He struggles mentally and I don't see how else he got these items.

I wasn't snooping, he asked me to get his basketball and I saw all these things in the back of his wardrobe.

He has a mental health team so I can discuss this with them but he is my only brother and I don't to drop him in to anything, more so as I might be overthinking this.

I hate being observant and overthinking things.

I'm not familiar with any kleptomania link to ASD but agree that some maladpative behaviours are not uncommon so you may have a point.

Remember that things like CDs and books are considered old tech so you can often pick them up very cheaply from charity shops or even eBay / jumble sales / house clearances etc.

The best approach is direct and observe the reaction - chances are this will tell you more than his actual words.

  • Hello, yes I think the best approach is to be upfront and honest as DeSpereaux said. I'll be tactful but I need to know one way or the other.

I would be interested in knowing if kleptomania is linked with ASD but there wasn't anything about it online so if it is I guess it's not that common.
