Cola (sugar) Addiction

For a few years I have had a cola addiction. Generally I'll have between 6-10 cans of cola a day and only recently did I realise that it is contributing to my feelings of unwell, dizziness and constant sore throat.

I read online that cola isn't considered a big problem but I've read a few people have had it. I'm not sure whether to cut down or cut it out completely and just go to water. I read headaches are common if cut out completely. I did think about talking to my GP but doctors give me horrible anxiety so I'd like to deal with this myself, if at all possible.

I'm such a fitness freak since my mental breakdown 3 years ago, I'm a ashamed I let myself get so addicted to the cola. I'm hoping I will get off this and avoid any potential health problems.

Has anyone else had cola or sugar addiction?

  • Cutting down with a target of cutting it completely would probably be smartest. You're taking in a lot of caffeine every day, and like most drugs your body won't like going from tons to none in a day.

If 6 is the fewest you're having per day, then a start would be just sticking to that but never going above that limit. Then after a week or two reducing that to no more than 5 and so on. Work out how much money you're saving on coke and use that money to get yourself some kind of reward for your work.

    You can do this!
