Council Housing and wellbeing.

I have to be honest I'm completely anxiety ridden and I am at loss in what to do. I am very worried and depressed and my meds not working.

I lived in a flat but I felt very isolated and lonely and moved back in with my mum and dad just over a year but my dad is a alcoholic. He can get very verbally abusive at times.

I would like to move in a suitable council flat as I am very vulnerable. I was told by my social worker that I was not peroity as I'm a single male under 50. I feel like no one is taking me seriously and I'm so lost.

I live in South Wales on band 2 told they can't put me into 1 as I'm not that bad yet. It's a waiting list and not a bidding one.

I feel very upset and on a verge of being S***** can I do anything to speed up the process? They could not tell my social worker how long I have to wait. Can I not look myself?

I'm so lost here and I'm not sure what to do. Just want to have a nice place of my own be happy and comfortable.

Parents
  • If you can provide them with a doctors letter stating you need a home

  • Ok I need to look Into it with my support worker, just hope he takes it seriously.

Edit: ok he just let me know, it can indeed happen. Will look further into it.

Anything else I can do please let me know

    Thank you!

  • If you are no longer welcome in the household and that you no longer have a home but a time frame to leave say 6 weeks then you can tell them how long you have until you have to leave.

  • No, just ask your doctor to provide you with a letter to state that you are vulnerable and why you need a home. You can say that not having a safe home makes you self harm and that you need a home for your safety. However, in your case I would highly recommend searching for autistic care home or disabled support. Phone the NAS to ask if they can point you in the right direction for autistic housing. Due to the amount of conditions you have  like depression, self harm etc you sound like you will need supported housing.

Living on ones is tough, and not easy at all. You might find that you get bad neigbours who might bully or belittle you so be careful when looking for a home. The outside world can be tough.

  • Would this be long term rent?

Should I mention I self harm due to depression?

  • You should apply to every housing association in your area just now.

Yes a hostel or temporary accommodation if you become homeless before a property becomes available for you. council and housing association homes are rare to be offered nowadays. Perhaps a studio flat private let might do. Make sure to save money for unexpected times that could arise in the future. And I would recommend looking into sheltered housing for autistic people

  • I'm not getting kicked out yet but my parents are ageing and will sell the house when they are no longer here.

I was told by someone that they had given a letter that they are kicking there daughter out to the government. It was to get the ball rolling but she had to go into a hostel for a short time but is not an option for me as he said the hostel was a horrible place.

Would I have to go into hostel if they did that or is it different for everyone?
