Thinking hard about dropping out

Has anyone thought about dropping out of society, I’m considering disappearing to try an live a simple life.
How would somebody disappear in the modern world?
what steps would you need to take make it successful?

Is it my autistic literalism that makes me think one could hardly disappear with a van? It would need fuel and maintenance, and has to be registered and taxed and you have to have a licence and insurance.

Unless you mean an old fashioned gypsy caravan with a horse - that would be cool!
