Thinking hard about dropping out

Has anyone thought about dropping out of society, I’m considering disappearing to try an live a simple life.
How would somebody disappear in the modern world?
what steps would you need to take make it successful?

I fantasise about it sometimes (my wife and I joke about keeping goats in the country), but I don't think I could really go through with it for a lot of different reasons.
