What happened to the rest of you?

Recently I got awarded one of those badge things, from this site, apparently I am a "socialite". (!!??)

I went to have a look at what that means and discovered the following factoid.

I am one of only Eight of such people on this site, out of a total membership of nearly 80,000 souls.

Now apart from meaning that I'm a flipping outlier again, (even here!) AND "anti-socialite" would be a more apt description, it got me wondering.

Only one in 10,000 of us has as many "Friends" here as me and the other members of the socialite group...

And when I do read the wider site, most people seem to post just once or twice and then fail to continue except for a small cadre of regular posters.

Since getting "socialite"is it seems a bit of a statistically "standout" thing, I'd like to thank everyone on my friends list who by either asking for or accepting my request, made it possible.

If any of you who have added me, now regret it (and that's very possible) prompt action now,  in removing me from your friends lists would:

A. be much appreciated, &

B. I'm curious to see if one can LOSE an "award" here...

I'm also curious to know if I am right to deduce that this site meets the needs of a small few of us, but is pretty irrelevant to the majority of it's members?

  • It is a funny old world Mr Sperg - you getting a badge?  What are you, a Brownie?  [Oh my goodness, I feel a "roast" coming on - must back away and be calm.]

  • we're simple people. you get what you ask for Smiley

  • All I have EVER wanted, was to be Isperg's friend......but, alas, no.  He has reached his lofty achievement without me.  It's like when your mate from school (who was irritatingly "something special") buys his first Bentley Continental aged 32 !!

  • see Ren and Stimpy

Favourite cartoon as a kid. Until Simpsons came along and surpassed it. Then South Park took the crown.

I still like animation. but 70's 80s stuff, like "heavy metal(1981)" and fantastic planet (1973)

  • Frustrated cartoon watching ambitions as a kid, then I had a kid in the 90's, and my cartoon watching boat came in...

Go see if you tube will let you see Ren and Stimpy series 2 episode 2 tooth nerve beaver.. (O.k. I didn't watch that one with my kid)

I've even got a courage the cowardly dog tee shirt...  And more spongebob merch than I should too.

My secret shame, "outed" at last..

  • I had to look that up = a bit niche?!  Early 90's cartoons have never been a special interest for me.

  • Well and clearly expressed.  I can't argue with that.

  • I have better names for them:

    Don Quixote and Sancho Panza

now which one is which one Smiley

  • Ah well, if one happens to be a Brit living in China that refuses to use any of the apps that are permitted in China, then the only way of being contacted is via a phone call.

Of course, even if the person phoning was unaware of your location, the Chinese government certainly would!

  • That's a discussion you'll need to have with 'Sperg'. All I will say is that 'Sperg' is the character with a tendency to indulge in harmless, comedic, mischievous antics, and you're the character that sometimes despairs (in a non-threatening comedic way) and shouts "NO!" when you think he's pushing his luck. Wink

Of course, I'm just basing this belief of mine on recent-ish observations I've made. Stuck out tongue winking eye

  • Do you want to be Ren or Stimpy?

  • Is it our future?

Well, no - I very much doubt it.  That said, your dream is a far most creative, interesting and uplifting vision of the future compared to what my nihilistic tendencies envisage.  I hope I dream of your SPDEB and derring-do as I now head to bed. Sleep tight mate.

  • chimera

I once had a dream happening in an universe, where humans encountered other races, and together created a civillization spanning millions of planets.

You would think a paradise future, alas no, far from it. Distrust and enmity never left universe, it went into hiding, So it became obvious that there was a need for a Special Police Department, Exogenetic Bureau.

I was Commander of one of it's units, leading a stealth attack on smuggler's den, only to realise in the end, I wasn't a human, I was a hybrid, a chimera, all member of my unit were mixes as well.

    Is it our future?

  • Only if I can be Hutch.....or Perky....or Dempsey !

  • "Phones" ?  Are you mad?  Nobody uses the telephone to talk - they would insta-book-face-tag-app you - and you would already know where they were because of the geo-tick-waze-ANPR-CCTV-swipe Linked in thingy.

  • Darn! I wanted to quote part of your reply to Mariusz, but for some reason, NAS isn't letting me, so I'll have to copy and paste:

I do consider Isperg to be a friend - I'm only joshing around here for comedic effect (hopefully)!

For what it's worth, I feel that may be stating the obvious. Relaxed

I have said this to 'Sperg' and I'll say it you Number, I think the pair of you make a good double-act. Grinning

  • Taking your order;

I do consider Isperg to be a friend - I'm only joshing around here for comedic effect (hopefully)!

I have never wanted a Bentley - too ostentatious for my taste.

I NEVER want stuff that other people generally have or aspire to - I'm different almost ALL the time.

I love that phrase - herring / keg.

My profile picture is an enigma, a chimera - it has meaning to some, and not to others.
