One of those days one could do without

When it comes to technology, my mother would be the first to admit she doesn't really understand it, even though she uses it regularly. At least once a week, my son or I (usually my son) will be on the receiving end of a phone call requesting help. More often than not, my mother's technology-related issues have been caused by user error, either because she has forgotten how to do something, or else hasn't been concentrating.

Earlier today, I agreed that I would visit my mother with my adult son. My mother had been having issues with her laptop, and also with Virgin Media on her TV. The plan was that whilst my son was dealing with her laptop issues, I would take care of the TV. From the moment we arrived, my mother barely paused for breath. Whilst my son and me were busy trying to focus on my mother's technological issues, my mother was talking to us non-stop about anything and everything. It was so distracting for us both.

Having eventually sorted out my mother's issues and made our escape, I had been looking forward to a relaxing evening back at home. This might well have been the case if I hadn't decided to check my e-mails whilst I was waiting for my kettle to boil. I'll refrain from going into too much detail, but I was left feeling like I wanted to let out a scream of despair. Roll on tomorrow!
