I need advice.

I am just going to put my situation out there in hopes of getting some advice. So for the last couple of months, my mental health has been at an all time low. I haven’t gone to therapy for around a month because my therapist is on maternity leave. I haven’t done any of my school work in weeks because when I even try to do it, I get very overwhelmed and quit before I even start. Failing these classes would set back my graduation which can not happen. The issue about all of this is that I don’t tell my parents anything. I haven’t said anything about school because when I even hint something about it they freak out, so I’ve been avoiding it. There is a partial hospitalization program near me and I think it would be good for me to go, but I would like advice on how to go about this. Thanks!

  • Hi, first just sending you a hug. Second, if this message is full of nonsense words it’s because Inlost my glasses, so I can’t see what I’m writing. Hopefully predictive text will get me through. Third, it’s great that you recognise that you need some help and have reached out. I don’t know how to answer your specific question but maybe your GP could refer you to the in-patient place? If not, they might think of something else. It sounds like you might need a new therapist while your current one is not available. That might not be so bad. They will see things differently and might help you unstick yourself from whatever is causing you a problem. Finally, getting through exams matters a lot to your parents, but I’m sure you being ok in yourself matters more. Usually colleges will keep a place open and let you come back to it. Literally thousands of students do this every year - it’s not unusual. So looking after yourself is the first step. Take it and things will look different in a while.
