Don't react..... Respond!

Responding means retaining rationalism, and a calm Adult manner.

Reacting means becoming over-emotional and Childish.

The problem with today's society is the obsession with Adults remaining Child-like. We have to grow up, and take responsibility for our actions. I, personally, had to figure that out for myself.

Not enough skills are taught in Schools. It's up to the Parents to teach them.

  • I just feel that too many kids view life as a Warzone, due to the Schoolyard.

  • Sometimes parents teach them all the skills and a young person can usually do the right thing, then with the pressure of school the red mist descends and they do something out of character as a reaction to something someone else does.

I understand that some parents need guidance, but others feel terrible when something goes wrong in school. All they can do then is try to support to prevent that happening again and prevent another suspension. This is especially difficult when parents have expended huge amounts of energy and anguish to get them to school each day.

  • As someone who works in a school, I would have to disagree with the final statement.  We have to teach the children to regulate their emotions (and are specifically trained to do so) because many parents don't do that, or don't have the ability to do that, and we have to fill in the gaps.  And there are far too many children with adverse experiences and lack of support. School staff these days are being trained to help deal with that.

  • That's all very true. Well said.

I feel I remained childlike for too long and I've had to adapt, change and mature now the hard way.

  • Have you had a social clash with an NT today? It sucks, but. it is what it is

Talking about morality with them is pointless

    with us? it depends

have would you behave if you had no parents to teach you when growing up? because mom was workin 80h a week to pay for kids and dad was drinking her heavily earned money away, and teachers treated you like you shouldn't be allowed to attend public school because it offended them

  • Wise words indeed.  Profound.
