probably anxiety related breathing thing

I’ve had this weird feeling in my throat like i’m mid-burp or my throat will close up at any second. I have a history of sparse anxiety attacks, and I am under some stress as of now.

honestly i feel like my throat tightness is causing my anxiety more than vice versa; I feel difficulty breathing and then I get worried that i’m about to suffocate. this has happened for a while now and I’ve been completely fine every time. is anyone else like this?

  • The throat thing is called Globus sensation. I have had it on and off for years. When it occurs, I can’t stop thinking about it and it gets worse the more anxious I become and I think I can’t swallow. It’s best to distract yourself, and it will go because you aren’t getting anxious about it.

    I recently had a lump in my throat checked with a camera down my nose and an ultrasound on my throat, because I also had a hoarse voice for months too. Turns out I have some big benign nodules in my thyroid. My voice box was fine, so they think the voice is down to globus and/or not drinking enough. 
    I done some research myself, and discovered Dysphonia. They are plenty of videos on YouTube to show you some at home treatment options. I do actually have pain and tender points in my windpipe, which is why I think this more of an accurate diagnosis of my current problem, alongside of the globus.

  • If you do become unconscious, your autonomic system will take over and you will begin breathing again. If your symptom is not a reaction to an unknown allergen, it does sound like it is anxiety related. If you breathe out more slowly than you breathe in (in for 2/3 seconds, out for 4/5 seconds) for a few minutes then a physiological response will ease your anxiety - the act of breathing out lowers blood pressure amongst other things.

  • Yes, I get terrible tightness in my chest and breathlessness with anxiety. I was perscribed a new asthma inhaler due to it and I ended up taking loads of covid tests cos I thought it was covid when it was actually anxiety
