Does anyone have any experience being referred to a specialist clinic/service?

Hello everyone,

I am currently under a community mental health team. The doctor there and a few others have decided to refer me elsewhere. Somewhere that specialises in autism and mental health. I already have a diagnosis of autism. Because I'm female, I'm not sure what service they're going to refer me to. A lot of the ASD services are mainly for males only. Does anyone have any experience of being referred to a specialist autism service for both males and females?

  • No. But I'm amazed they didn't answer those questions for you, especially as we autistic, tight? And need that precision in the information and they ought to know that. You could ring them up or write in and ask.

    I just hope that service turns out to be clued up on the female presentation of autism. Some services are. Others are behind the times.
