Event anxiety

I can't sleep, due to my anxiety. The event I'm anticipating is a weigh-in with Slimming World.

I overdid the caffeine, and am away to the fairies; once again.

  • Something I try to do if I feel under pressure with goals is to try to concentrate on the 'inputs' rather than the 'outputs'. What I mean by this is try not to be intimidated by an outcome that can be overwhelming (losing x amount of weight since last weigh-in), but consider the individual steps that you need to take to make that goal happen (did you do the amount of exercise you had planned, did you avoid the foods you had decided to avoid etc).

I often have scenarios (particularly at work, but I think the same applies elsewhere) where elements of a goal are outside of my control - for example if I'm working on a project with others I can't control their contribution to the project. What I try to focus on instead is the elements I can control (my actions) and if I'm worried about other people's contribution (or lack thereof) I consider if there's anything I can realistically do to mitigate it - maybe set specific goals for them and check in with them to make sure they're on track.

Specific to weight loss which I appreciate can be very frustrating - you need to have faith that if you are consistent you will get results. Are you anxious because you are consistently being disappointed on weigh-on day or is it just because you've had a bad week diet wise and are not looking forward to the result?
