Mental health

I'm struggling a lot with my mental health at the moment. I want to put bleach in my eye to blind myself but I'm still in control at the moment. I've been struggling with my mental health a lot and I'm scared that I'll lose control soon and I really don't want that to happen. What should I do?

  • Hi Verity,

It sounds like there's been a lot going on and I hope that you are feeling okay.

We've sent you an email - please check your inbox!

    Thanks,

  • Hi , I’m sorry you are going through such a tough time, it’s good that you’ve let us know what’s happening/how you feel. Many people have similar thoughts when coping with so much and we hope you’re okay.

If you are unable to cope with the distress or despair, it’s very important to tell someone about your feelings or thoughts of suicide. Call your GP and make an urgent appointment. Your GP can make sure you get appropriate help and support.

If it’s outside your GP hours call  111  to reach the NHS 111 service:   http://www.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/AboutNHSservices/Emergencyandurgentcareservices/Pages/NHS-111.aspx

The Samaritans also provide confidential non-judgemental emotional support, 24 hours a day on 116 123, or by email on jo@samaritans.org.

MIND have information pages on coping with self harm or suicidal feelings based on the experiences of people who’ve been through it that you may find helpful.

If you are very close to doing something to hurt yourself - call 999 now or go to your nearest A&E department. There should be someone there to support you and make sure you get ongoing support.

You can find more information here: https://www.autism.org.uk/advice-and-guidance/topics/mental-health/suicide.

    With all the best wishes,

    Anna Mod

  • (This website tells you your local crisis number along with giving you alternative options - it also says about 999/A & E in emergencies - you may feel you need to scroll down and read that bit first depending on how desperate you are feeling.) I hope you feel better now.

  • Hello Verity,

It's been several hours since you posted here and  I'm really hoping your  thoughts are subsiding.

I'm sure everyone on this forumm will support you, you've already been given some excellent advice in the above posts.

If you do nothing else, please call the samaritans; the volunteers are there 24 hours a day and they really do care. They will listen to you, talk to you, advise you and more. They will be there all night.

I don't think you and I have spoken before, but I have posted a couple of times on the  thread you started on collecting.  What a popular subject that is!  It seems that everyone here collects something.

I'm really hoping things have improved. Please keep us informed.

    Ben

  • Ring 999 if you feel you are going to do this. Don't wait or hesitate! It's an emergency and you should get immediate expert advice and assessment.

Depending on where you are in the UK, you should have a specialist mental health team with a number to ring in an emergency. If you have it, ring it!

If you are not in immediate danger, then you might want to talk to someone like the Samaritans. You can talk about anything that's troubling you, no matter how difficult. You can call Samaritans on 116 123.  There is also send the text, SHOUT, to 85258. This is a Crisis Text Line.

Please do not suffer in silence or do anything to harm yourself. Get help.

    Much love,

    Michael x
  • You might be having very intense thoughts and emotions, and an important thing to do, is to keep your hands preoccupied, I folded paper cranes as my lifeline, to keep myself away from harm. I'll also suggest to call a helpline because they'll be more helpful to you.

  • Bless you. You obviously need some intervention now to feel safe. Can you ring the crisis team? Do you have confidence in them? Can you get to A & E?

  • Do you have a crisis number you can ring? Do you feel safe tonight? Have you got any medication you can take to take the edge off the wish to self-harm.
