desperate

Hi, I am the mum of an 18 year old son with Asperger's. I am desperate to help him but always come  up against a brick wall.....that is my son himself. It seems he wants to be normal, but does not want help because to ask for help he would have to say he has Asperger's. It is like he is asking me to build a mansion with out any tools or bricks etc.

He was diagnosed at 11 years of age so had no early intervention and due to his violience we have never really been able to get any help. We lived in Australia and services there are not very good, so after many bad experienceshe does not really want  to access any doctors, specialists here in the UK. Any progress made has been with what I was able to come up with and him maturing with age. He has not been vilent in the last hmmm say 2 years and is very polite and funny, but can only be that when I am there. He avoids any social contact, and I can only get him to go out once in a blue moon. His sister is still in Australia and plans to come over in approx a years time and I know he misses her imensely but I cant seem to do anything right at the moment. Can any one suggest or advise of what is available or what I could do. I know I have not given you a whole heap of infomation to go on but I can answe any questions you may have. Thank you in advance.....

  • Hi Allio

I have a 16 year old son who also was diagnosed at 11 years old.

Like your son my son relies alot on me to be present in most situations and doesnt go out much.

I have tried to support him in life but as you say it is difficult when they are not part of the process.

There are help lines and help sections on this site which might be able to advise you.

    Hope things improve for you
