Hello all

Hi i am a mum of a Aspie boy 23years old who lives independantly and 3 other children on the autistic spectrum. I was my sons full time carer until he moved out. I have joined the group online because i really need help with the DLA-> PIP transfer. My son has not been assessed since he was 12 years old and very little has changed. However he does not want to go through the process because of the stress it induces. I need help filling out the form really.

  • Hi Lemonlamb,

I agree with mld - Benefits and Work are very helpful.  They also produce a monthly newsletter that they can email to you.  It has lots of advice and case stories.

I'm not sure what your experience is with the CAB - I know their help can vary - but my local branch has also been very helpful with benefits issues.  They have a specialist available, and you can make an appointment to see them with the relevant forms.  The ESA forms and assessments, I know, are designed to catch people out.  Questions like 'Can you pick a pen up off the floor?'  A friend of mine, with a severe spinal problem, answered 'Yes' because he can - but not always. It depends on his pain level on a particular day.  'Yes', though, means 'Yes' to them.  All the time.  So such questions need careful answering.

I hope things work out well for you and your sons.

    Best regards,

    Tom

  • Hi,

There is a group online called 'Benefits and Work' and they have booklets available to help you fill in the forms.  I got an email from them yesterday and until this friday, 17th there is a 20% money off voucher (98456).  I don't know how expensive they are, but they seem to get people from DLA to PIP.  When I have to go through the process I am thinking about using them.  When I filled in my ESA form I just used what they had online, and that worked just fine, without paying at all.  They are definately worth a look.

    Good luck.

    M.
