Hi!

im new to all this so a little about me.

Im a single mum of 2 boys. My eldest is 11 and has Asd and sensory processing disorder, along with various other bits and bobs.

my youngest is 6 and very very active!

I have been working full time and to be honest have just been keeping a float but now we are struggling and I feel like it's time to re assess our situation. I am thinking of going to work part time so it will free up more time to focus on my boys.

Thanks for listening

  • Thanks. I thought discharge was normal eventually

  • You're right, their needs do change and I wouldn't want to lose our yearly paediatric check ups- I wouldn't allow a discharge!  ASD is for life so why discharge him?!  When they go to high school things can step up a grade - I'd get back into the system if you can - even if its back to the GP!  Good luck.

  • Yes he was diagnosed at 4. i have DLA but it's up for renewal in January. He had so much help when younger and we did so well. We have just had a very tough year this year and a new school on top hasn't helped. the struggle is about me not being able to give as much time as I'd like to ensure he has what he needs. He was discharged a year ago from his specialist as she was moving and didn't think he'd like a new dr, but now I'm thinking he needs re-referring. I guess like all children their needs change over time.

  • Just a thought given that you are finding things a bit of struggle now - as your eldest appears to have a diagnosis (not that you need one for this...), just wondered if you have applied for disability living allowance (DLA) - you may be eligible and it will certainly help if you are?
