Hello,

Im a 21 year old by the name of Laura. I havent been diagnosed with Aspbergers yet, but I saw a specialist yesterday who said I definately have traits so I need to get it investigated furthur; Im having the ADOS test in January. Im not new to Aspbergers, as both my brothers have it. Im fairly sure that I have it as well. I have 'special interests' which I am completely obsessed with. I am at uni. Hope it lasts, because I have started before and just left because I found it difficult.

    Hello Laura, welcome to the forum. Its a big step getting the diagnosis. I had done so much research beforehand, I thought I had covered most bases. Shocked to discover after the diagnosis, how widespread it had been on my life. There are many similar traits, as I understand, everyones experience of it is different.

    A work colleague of mine has aspergers, and to be quite honest, I don't get on with him very well. I can see similarities, but our personalities, and approach to things are very different. What are you studying at Uni ?

    I hope your diagnosis will help you put some bits of the puzzle together and help you with your difficulties at uni.

    I remember I was deperate to leave education, I struggled with english, but found I just was not challenged enough with science, computing, and maths and just found it boring. So much so, I regularly fell asleep at my desk with one lecturer. One day he pointed me out mid discussion on a complex subject as I had just woke up. He raised his tone and setting me up for a grilling in front of my classmates. I can remember the shock on his face, when I gave him the perfect answer and just went back to sleep. 

    I had to drop out of college, because I  couldn't cope with the artificial pressure on everything. I did manage to pick the pieces up, and returned a year later while I was doing part time job at same time because my grant had been pulled.
