Hi! I am new :)

Hi everyone!

I am Holly, a 22 year old woman. I was diagnosed with autism a few months ago now and I have been coming to terms with what it means for me.

It has definitely helped in the sense that I now understand myself so much better and feel more comfortable explaining why specific things bother me/make me super happy etc.

Although, looking back at my childhood/watching childhood videos makes me feel sad for my younger self. It is clear that I wasn’t properly understood and I wish that there was more understanding and awareness of autism in girls when I was younger.

Does anyone else relate? Also, does anyone have any top tips for accommodating your needs etc?

  • Hi and welcome.

I wish that there was more understanding and awareness of autism in girls when I was younger.

So do I! Perhaps I could have diagnosed 60 years ago!

I've only recently been diagnosed, so I'm not great on tips as I'm still coming to terms with it, myself. One thing I am doing is taking it slowly and not 'coming out' to many people as an announcement. Rather, if the subject of autism comes up, I'll respond from an autistic standpoint. If anyone wants to challenge that, I'll take it from there.
