Recently diagnosed

Hi everyone, just joined the community having been diagnosed as autistic at the age of 50 after a 4 year wait on the NHS waiting list.  Still digesting things at the moment, and working out how to tell work colleagues, friends (the very few that I have) and others I'd like to tell. Any suggestions welcome.

Have been spending a lot of time thinking about what might have been had I been diagnosed much earlier in life, but I know I can't change the past, but I can influence the future. I'm fortunate that I have a good job that I enjoy and have good support from my line managers.

  • Hi and welcome. Like Oscar, I'm recently diagnosed in my early 70s. Had i still been working, I doubt any of my colleagues would have been surprised.

For now, I'm sticking to people I trust. I've thrown out hints to others (like talking about autism from an imformed standpoint, if the subject comes up) without being explicit. At the moment I don't see the need to let people know unless I see an advantage e.g. to explain my reluctance to do something.
