Autistic 20 Year Old Thinking Spiders Are Crawling Over Him

Hi,

My 20 year old son often experiences feelings/images of spiders crawling over him when he is stressed - This has been happening for quite a few years but it is only this year that he has been able to express what he is feeling, etc.

Has anyone else had any experience of this and/or any tips on how I can help him with this?

  • This may sound really crazy, but would wrapping himsel;f in a duvet or a blanket help? Or using a weighted plush animal like this owl, where he might be able to imagine it eating the spiders. I know he's 20, but weighted things often help some of us when we're stressed. Perhaps he could find something with a pattern that eases his stress.
