Work and reasonable adjustments

Hi all,

I was diagnosed in April this year and I’m in my early 20s, I work in a healthcare setting and let my manager know about my diagnosis. I brought up some reasonable adjustments but was told it’s practically impossible in my line of work, I was sent a link from HR yesterday after they were finally told about my condition 6 months later for mental health at work support. Again I mentioned my reasonable adjustments in the medical questionare submitted to HR but still nothing has been suggested. I’m struggling at work but nobody seems to want to help, the programme they sent me the link to doesn’t handle neurodiverse individuals. Am I being dramatic? And Where do I go from here?

  • Hi Lissy,

I am very sorry to hear about your work not taking the necessary reasonable adjustments to help you in work. You have rights as an autistic person to support at work. Your employer has a duty to make reasonable adjustments for you, and you may also be entitled to a grant from the Government to pay for additional practical support. Our page on What support can I get at work may help you to understand the support you can get at work along with our page on reasonable adjustments. If you are still unable to get the support you need you may find it helpful to read our page on what can I do if I'm having trouble in work, which includes links to organisations which can help you.

I hope that you are able to get the support you need in work.

    Best wishes,
