Hello

Hello everone, I'm glad I found this part of the forum and the explanation about your posts being moderated as newbie. I dived in earlier and replied to a post where I though the OP was really struggling. When I got a message to say my post was being moderated I worried a bit. I thought I'd said something wrong and was too autistic for a autistic forum! Sweat smile

Anyway, I got AI to help me choose a username, it suggested it after I told tem a few interests including liking watching Star Trek: Voyager. Loved the suggestion so went with it.

I'm 52 years old and female. I wasn't diagnosed autistic until a couple of years ago. It was actually being on another forum where there was lots of 'Am I autistic?' type posts that I kept thinking, 'Hang on a minute, I do that! and that, and that!' I was just sent a letter after the two assessments to say I was autistic, a link to a website and that was it. I didn't do much about the diagnosis since then as I have lived my life so long I didn't realise a lot of my day is actually taken up by being autistic! I discovered this a day or so ago by having a convesation with google about sleep. I learned I wasn't lazy, I have sleep inertia, that I can't sleep earlier as autistiic people have an later circadian rhythm, that the need to stretch my legs in the night that wakes me when I do sleep is restless legs and a lot of autistic people have it. That I get 'stuck' mentally and physically, task changng problems, relaxing problem...etc

I went a bit nuts on Amazon and have ordered a book, weighted blanket, a visual progress bar timer and a Ono roller. I already had one weighted blanket and a squeazy/stress ball to all try and help.

I have agoraphobia (Panic attacks away from home.) so don''t go out. I spend some of my time (And I have discovered it's a form of stimming.) knitting. I make Christmmas decorations, chocolate orange covers, dragons, I knitted my sibling a 2 ft gargoyle for their birthday. Laughing (They loved it, haven't come up with a name for it yet though.) Robins, snowmen, elves...I would say I've never knitted a scarf but that would be a lie, my sister in law asked me to make her three dogs a scarf with our local teams football colours when our team was in some cup or other. No, I don't follow football. Stuck out tongue winking eye

I think Ive waffled on enough for now. Joy I look forward to 'meeting' fellow forum users and engaging with some chat.

  • Hi FriendlyNPC, is your username due to The Sims? Grinning That was the first time I heard the phrase Non Playable Character. Unless your NPC stands for something else?! Sweat smile

I'd love a chat with you, do you want to chat here or prefer private messaging?

  • Wow, this week?! Are you shocked, releaved? How are you taking it? I have heard of paramedics that have to retire due to PTSD from the job. I can imagine emergency services is a demanding job I wouldn't like to imagine the things seen. Just to lighten the mood, I did once also hear that a lot of surgeons are actually phsycopaths, they need to be that way to do the job they do! lol (Explains the God complex too. Sweat smile Please don't now tell me you were a surgeon?! Open mouthStuck out tongue closed eyes)

What 80's cartoons do you like?

  • Hi,

I'm also late diagnosed, like Voyager and am agoraphobic. Your knitting creations sound great and it's really good that you've find a calming stim which is also creative.

Welcome to the group and if you ever want to talk with someone of similar age with similar ways of life just drop me a message.

  • I did not do too much of an intro post. Essentially im a 41 year old male UK who just got diagnoised this week. Had a 16 year career in emergency services until April when i was medically retired due to PTSD. Burnout and my autistic traits coming more to the surface were also a factor.

On the fun side, enjoy sci fi, 80s cartoons, lego and video games

  • Is Torchwood still being filmed or has it finished?

You like the design aspect of The Sims too? Smiley I never played as a vampire. Well done on the legacy! It's a lot of work, even adopting.

I remember when I first came across Harry Potter. I was baby sitting a young girl and she wanted me to read the philosophers Stone to her at bedtime. I gave up after a few pages as I couldn't pronounce half of the words! Joy I'd never heard of a muggle before or was it a squib (Non magical magical person.)? At the time I thought it was nonsence, lol. I can't remember wht got me to watch all the films and read the books in the end but I did enjoy them. Once I knew what I was reading! Sweat smile Hogwarts Legacy sounds really fun! Does it have nearly headless nick in it and Percy or do they come later?

  • Hi NinjaPanda85, it's nice to meet you. Grinning It seems there are quite a few of us Star Trek fans on here! I'm glad you are finding everyone so friendly. I like your profile picture as my brother loves dinosaurs. Smiley

Did you do an introduction post? I'd love to read it if so.

  • Hi AlienOn3arth. Grinning I like your username! Is it becacause you have an interest in aliens, or just you feel like that in society? I never had knitted an alien or UFO! I did look a while ago for Dr who/Star Trek knitting patterns on Etsy. They had some amazing crochet patterns, but I can't crochet! Sweat smile The only knitting patterns I could find where charts and whilst I can do them they are very complicated and I don't enjoy them. I did however see the new Jellycat UFO and really want it! They'll be no chance though as I'm not paying over £50 for a plushie. Sweat smile It did make me curious as to knitting my own and maybe once I've finished my current project I'll try and find a pattern.

If you are interested in aliens, do you watch Ancient Aliens? I love that show. Alien

Do you plan on publishing your novels? Or write any fan fiction? What kind of music inspires you?

  • Hi Lonehare12, thanks for your reply. Grinning I've managed to crop and paint out the backgrounds of some photos of my knitting so they are hopefully not identifiable,  but just tried to upload them (I'm on a laptop.) and it's asking for a url. I'll have to find a hosting site. Soon as I've done that, I'll post you some photos. Smiley

EDIT: Lets see if this works...

Now lets see if I can link to the others in one go...

If you click on the elf picture it should take you to my abum.

  • Hi and welcome Hugging

Im a late diagnosed female too. I have found this place to be very helpful and friendly. I hope you settle in here soon.

You sound very creative, I love the sound of your knitted creations, would it be possible to share some pictures of your work please.?

  • Halo,   welcome to the community. I love space lego and painting pictures. Have you ever knitted a space craft or flying saucer? As my stimming I pace my kitchen. I do the pacing around since my early childhood. it feels wonderful and relaxing, without it i cant cope. It's not productive but sometimes I get ideas to write sci fi stories while pacing my kitchen and listening ro music. I wrote few novels already, two more are in tge process.

  • Hi LateToTheAlphaQuadrant,

Welcome to the forum, I only joined a couple of days ago and everyone has been really friendly. Also a star trek fan (TNG, Voyager, DS9) and BSG and Babylon 5.

  • Yes, John Barrowman plays Captain Jack Harkness in Torchwood.

I also prefer building and decorating and creating characters in Sims 4. I've sometimes played as a vampire as they don't need to eat or use the toilet, but keeping their need for plasma satisfied can be difficult! You can play a legacy game on xbox - I did the alphabet legacy by adopting and it's much quicker.

I have watched all the Harry Potter movies and found them quite entertaining, but I'm not a huge fan. The Hogwarts game is set in 1890, around 100 years before Harry Potter's time there. It's a visually stunning game with good quests and you can ride a broomstick, and a hippogriff.

  • Is John Barrowman in torchwood as captain something? Or have I got that completely wrong? Joy I remember watching a bit of Dr Who with him in and they discovered he couldn't die?

I miss playing the sims. Mind you, I say play, I used to use the motherlode cheat all the time and design really expensive houses/contents. Also loved designing sims but play not so much. I used to always try and have all the bars. like loo and sleep, totally green. Also found a cheat to keep the bars up so I'd have a sim learning cooking, etc all day and night. It was filling in those bars for me! lol I'd loved to have built a legacy though, do they have that option on the Xbox?

I've never played Assassin's Creed. Do you like Harry Potter in general or just the Hogwarts game? I'm looking forward to the Harry Potter TV series starting this Christmas.

  • Oh, I remember watching V, Blake's 7, tripods and day of the triffids! I also used to watch Stargate SG1. Dr Who was ok, but the best ones were with David Tennant & Matt Smith in my opinion - stopped watching it after Matt left. I'm currently watching the spin off series Torchwood which I think is better.

I never took to Janeway, her voice grated on my nerves Persevere

I play games on an xbox, including Sims 4. I also like some of the Assassin's creed games and Hogwarts Legacy.

  • Hello Lotus, nice to meet you! Grinning I used to play vidoe games, loved my Playstation2. Used to love playing Tomb Raider2 on it. I do have a Switch now but apart from Pokemon I don't usually play it. When I had a desk top PC I used to also love playing The Sims 2/3/4. I would talk to my sims and tell them off if they didn't do what they'd been told to. Sweat smile What video games and platform do you like to play on?

I dabble in sci-fi. Grin I grew up with it really, my mum was, and brother is a sci-fi fan. I remember begging as a kid to stay up late in half term to watch V though. We also used to watch Blake's 7, and Tripoods, and The Triffids...I was never a big Dr Who fan though. I did also used to watch Star Trek TNG and managed too catch an episode on TV a few weeks ago, reminded me of how much I liked it. My Favourite characters are of course Seven of Nine, Data, Pickard, and loads of the Voyager crew. Funnily enough I'm not over keen on Janeway! I find her a bit strong headed sometimes to the detriment of the crew.

I used to watch Stargate SG1 also and I was just thinking earlier they don't really make shows like that anymore do they? Mind you there is Star Trek Strange New Worlds which I keep meaning to start and forget. Stuck out tongue I did try watching Stuart Fails To Save The Universe the other day as I'd asked for some comedy suggestions on Google. Just as a warning, that Google didn't tell me, it is a dark comedy, there is violence in the first 5 minutes. This really put me off and I turned it off. I was also recommended Sch**ts Creek (I hope that word is allowed? I tried starring it anyway.) I wasn''t impressed with the first two episodes but I''m told iit gets better after episode 3.

  • Hi and welcome to the community. I'm a woman in my mid sixties and retired. I enjoy reading and playing video games, and I'm a lifetime fan of sci-fi. I enjoyed Star Trek Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager and I like your user name.

Do you have any favourite Star Trek characters? Mine are Deanna Troi, Quark & Seven of Nine.

  • Hi, I don't drink alcohol either. I'm also a type 2 diabetic so can't indulge in all the sweet treats now either! Sweat smile I've seen a clip on a programme called Criminaly Funny whre it showed a woman caught on doorbell cam sneaking upp to a door and stealing the Christmas wreath! Open mouth I've also seen clips of people stealing outside Christmas trees! I'm sorry your was stolen.

I probably have way too much stuff but I do like buying for others. I personnaly think, so and so would love this! and get it for them. They probably open it and scratch their heads. Joy It's the thought that counts...

Right, off to get ready for,, yes you've guessed it, Star Trek Voyager at 5pm. Grin

  • Hi Emannings, thanks so much for your message. Grinning Are you in the UK? (Don't feel obliged or pressure to answer.)

  • Hello Profdanger and thanks for your message! Grinning Firstly thank you for informing me about AI and I just want to assure you and others that my posts are me and authentic. I only used AI for my username. I wouldn't use it to make posts. I hope that's helped anyone wondering.

Thank you for letting me know that agoraphobia is quite common on here. I am usually the only one and made to feel shame for my condition-even by medical professionals- "Can't you just come out this one time?" As if I'm just being a pain on purpose.

Oh shame to hear about the scams but good the moderation is stopping it!

Good that your weighted blanket helps sleep. I must admit, it did help mine apart from when I got too hot in the night and kicked it off. Joy

  • When I'm out Usually go for vegetarian food and drink. I don't drink alcohol.

Usually Christmas wreaths hang inside. Once we had one outside and got pinched as we're first and last house nearer to the railway station. Christmas decorations and trees.

I don't exchange presents anymore as accumulated loads of things. Mostly exchange Christmas cards. My postal ones are with a miniature.

Christmas chocolates, Christmas TV and Usually go to the sales a few days afterwards. Mince pies have to read the box carefully as some contain alcohol. There's a good cake shop in my town which does amazing Christmas cake

Don't apologise for the late reply.
