Hi all!

How are you?

I am a later diagnosed adult and, although suspected ASD for a few years, finding it ‘difficult’ to accept, yet a sense of validation/relief.  I’ve not yet received my report so perhaps that is why it doesn’t feel real, like I’ve imagined it…

Anyway, a little about myself (not something I particularly enjoy doing lol):

I’m currently at uni, enjoy reading and some crafting to name a few (I’m also waiting for a potential ADHD diagnosis)

Look forward to chatting as and when able Thumbsup tone1

  • Hello and welcome,

I am a newcomer too; only receiving my assessment this year.

Finding difficulties, post-assessment, is it seems surprisingly common. For me, I felt rather tired and empty for some weeks. A bit like coming out of an anaesthetic - a bit out of touch with the world and rather exhausted. There was a great sense of relief, as you say. It took a couple of months to rally and then I found I felt very different than I had before the assessment. I certainly was a lot calmer in all sorts of ways and worried less.  Even this change took a little getting used to.

When I reflect about it all now it was quite a seismic shift, for me.

I see you are awaiting your full assessment. I still look at mine as I find much information about what it is that makes the autistic me. I like the validation by professionals as opposed to me constantly trying to self-assess. It is like a line in the sand.

I enjoy "reading" audio books and have been an avid crafter since a little boy; about 70 years ago. I like to craft things whilst listening to music or an audiobook.

I hope you have a great time here. There is so much information and I find the site a safe place to be and the people helpful and thoughtful.
