Newb

Hey everyone,

I’m 38, cis gay man, currently self-diagnosed while I’m on the waitlist for something official. I’ve struggled with mental health & neurodivergence my whole life but it only occurred to me in the last 5 years or so that being autistic or ADHD was even a possibility, now that I’ve accepted it, done some digging & a lot of reflection on my past & present struggles, both alone & with a mental health professional, it is glaringly obvious that I fit into the AuDHD category.

I spent 13 years living in Australia & Canada, moving around a lot trying to find “my people” & a place I felt like I belonged with limited success, now I’m back in Scotland after two bad burnouts a few years apart, as I needed a better support system, & I’m finally realizing & addressing the reality of having a brain that works differently from most.

I’m into video games, travel, hiking, baking (pies mostly, absolute beginner), food & drink in general.

Hope to connect to some people here who I can relate to & share our experiences!

  • Hey bro, welcome. I’m fairly new myself. You should try to get a diagnosis. I felt a great weight lift when I received mine. Go to your gp and ask for a right-to-choose referral.

  • Hey!

Thanks for the advice, I’ve already got a referral, I was seeing a psychiatric nurse when I got back last year who agreed with my suspicions & referred me for autism & ADHD assessments. Got a letter from autistic assessment saying I meet the criteria for assessment but it would be a while before they could do it. Hopefully it won’t be too long though!
