Anxious new person.

Hello,

I'm normally too nervous to post online but this seems like a safe space, so I'm trying to be brave and give this a go. I hope I can add something worthwhile to the community and make some positive connections.

How have you all found this community? Please share your feelings and experiences with me if you want to.

To do my due diligence:
I was diagnosed as autistic just before my 40th birthday after a long journey of self-discovery.

I like reading sci-fi and fantasy, gaming, trying to make games, mental health, football, cats, macro photography and not having the mental capacity to remember all of the things that I like in one sitting.

  • Hello and welcome,

I am fairly new here too and have found it both a friendly, informative and safe space. I am sure you will find people who have similar interests to the ones you have listed.

Congratulations upon your autism assessment. I am 70+ and was only diagnosed this year.

I hope you find lots to enjoy here.

  • Hi, thank you, that's really good to hear.

Wow, that must be a lot to process. I hope your diagnosis brings you tools to improve your life and that it answers a lot of questions for you.

  • Thank you for your kind reply,

I was just discussing how my assessment felt, with my partner. The best analogy I could find was "it was like a door being closed behind me and on my past and this unknown vista appearing ahead of me".  No wonder I felt rather numb and a bit lost. However that wore off as I explored the new vista.
You, are quite correct the diagnosis has answered so many questions that have been with me for 70+ years.

  • That's really interesting. When I was diagnosed I spent a long time going over my past and realigning things with the new information. I hope that your new vistas are full of beauty and fun for you and your partner.
