Just diagnosed at 67

I am a 67 years old woman who was diagnosed a week ago.  I have grandchildren who have previously been diagnosed.  There is so much of my past life that I will be reviewing now in a different way.  I hope the diagnosis will have a positive impact on my self esteem, which has been low in recent times.

  • I was diagnosed about 7 years ago at a similar age. A diagnosis should have a positive effect on your self esteem. If you share this with others, though, you may find that some will dismiss it as if it isn't real, so be prepared, but others will be very supportive.

If you are in a meaningful relationship, at some point you may need to think about whether things need to change between you, particularly if you have been masking your real self. If you do, then it would be best to feel your way through this slowly. Autistic people are well known for hating imposed change, but I don't think that neurotypical people are that keen either!

    Good luck!
