Hi

Hi all,

No idea what to put here, I'm 30 and trying to navigate the mess that is getting an Autism assessment referral. Been told by adult mental health services since 2013 that my ADHD diagnosis is most probably a misdiagnosis and that I should be tested for it but never really bothered until now and now that I am doctors don't seem to want to help they just want to focus on my depression and anxiety "because those seem be the most prevalent at the moment" which they should know as  medical professionals that undiagnosed/untreated autism can present as anxiety and depression.

I have a few hobbies but not many as I struggle in social settings for many reasons and just tend to stick to myself.

Yes that first bit was a bit of a speal but yeah...that's me in a nutshell I think...just a 30 year old living in a world that I don't fit into

  • Hi Nuru, and a warm welcome to the online community!  We're glad to have you here, and I hope you enjoy your time with us.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having a hard time accessing a diagnosis.  I'm sure a lot of people can relate - between difficulty getting to a GP and lengthy waiting lists, it certainly isn't easy.

The NAS page on How to request an autism assessment might be helpful to you.  It could also be worthwhile asking to speak to a different GP about being referred, if that is an option that is available to you.

I'd also like to point you towards our Autism Services Directory, which allows you to search for support that is tailored for, or adapted to, autistic folks in the UK.  It includes services such as diagnosticians, advocacy services, and also leisure and extracurricular activities or groups.

I hope these are helpful to you, and am wishing you all the best.  Please do post again if you'd like and let us know how things are going.  The community is always here for you.
