Hi I’m a mum to a 9 year old who finally after nearly 5 years fighting has received a diagnosis of high function autism.
im really struggling atm with the return to school. It’s only day 2 and im on edge waiting for a call from them. My child can be so sweet and wonderful but he has the same struggles as most other autistic kids and doesnt understand social cues and how to interact and handle conflict. He gets so defensive and shuts down if he does something wrong and makes everything 100 times worse.
I have had conversations with the school and he does attend the nurture hub. His nurture teacher sees a totally different child to the one his normal teacher sees. I feel the school could be doing a lot more to support SEN kids and teach the rest of the kids about autism and other learning difficulties. I’m lost on how to help my child.
we are struggling with his anger outbursts at the moment too. We know it’s just him trying to regulate himself and he cannot control it but how we teach him to deal with it we don’t know.
now I’ve waffled loads I’m off to explore the rest of the community and hope someone has the magic answer to solve all our problems! Lol
