Hello community,
Yesterday my nine year old daughter had her autism assessment and it was confirmed that is autistic. Not just that but they also want to do a further assessment as they believe she may be learning disabled. I have an eight year old son already diagnosed and he has moderate learning disability. He however attends an additional needs school and is certainly more profound than i even considered my daughter to be.
I am not entirely surprised that my girl was finally diagnosed autistic but what i have struggled with is the learning disabled part. I literally never even considered her to be struggling in such a way. It has just blown my mind and i feel quite overwhelmed about it. Not just that but my heart aches for here. I seem to be overwhelmed with anxiety about what the future holds for both of my kids. I don't know how i can handle more worry and more pain and anxiety. I know i have to deal with it. To be my daughter and sons advocate. To be strong. But i just don't feel very strong. I just feel alone with it all. Not a lot of support around. Not many people at all around me that actually understand how it feel. My husband doesn't seem to really to acknowledge much and just says they are our babies we just deal with it. I feel so angry at him because he doesn't seem to be feeling any sort of anxiety or grief even.
Maybe it will be better in a few days once i have had a chance to process everything. My kids are amazing even if they are hard work. I am glad i have found this community though, a place were i can connect with others that feel similar. Hopefully feel less alone with it all.
