Hi all, I'm Sarah, 31 years of age and recently have been diagnosed with autism. I am struggling to get my head around the diagnosis although a lot makes sense to me now. Is this normal? I am waiting for the report but feel almost like i have been given a diagnosis and left to it. How is everyone else dealing with this?

    This was typical of my response too and pretty common, if the all the comments on this website are anything to go by. 

    I was asked by my assessors whether I wanted the one page "result" and I said yes. It was a bit like turning a light on in a dark room, so many of the shapes now had colour, form and meaning. All a bit overwhelming as I discovered who I really was. However, I waited for my full assessment report because I wanted to know how I had triggered an autistic result. However, I am over 70 and quite patient by nature.     

    That was 5 months ago and I am very different person now; having absorbed and acclimatised myself to a lot of my autism diagnosis. However, I have taken my time; there is much to reflect on and reflection and understanding do take time. Most people on this site seem to agree that slow and steady is the best approach. 

    My report has a lot of valuable information upon books to read, websites to visit, etc.

    Thank you for your response. It's good to know these are typical feelings i am experiencing. I wasn't told about the one page result so i'm just waiting for the full assessment report to show my employer. I have been off sick from work for quite a few months now and plan to return back this Friday, i'm concerned when i do return i will be unable to cope again. Do you know if i can request proof of my diagnosis to show my boss whilst i wait for the full report?
