Hello group.
I have an ASD dx for about 20 years, (mid 50s now), and was always plagued that I may be 'faking it' in some way, or am inauthentic as some of the traits didn't really fit (I realise this is likely a result of us ASD individuals' ongoing feeling of not fitting in anywhere... so I naturally felt that my strong masking tendency was extending to ASD itself).
In the last few days I've discovered AuDHD (ASD + ADHD) and the descriptions of it are an almost exact fit (hyperfocus and resistance to change yet a desire for novelty plus some impulsivity; drained by social interaction yet having a strong desire for it etc). It has always troubled me that my ASD never felt completely right and that the residual behaviour is my personal deficiency, but I feel an overwhelming sense of relief having learned about AuDHD and its traits. Not as an excuse, but so I can put things in their rightful place.
I'm keen to know more and meet some of you here who are experiencing the effects of AuDHD, how you deal with it and how it helped (or not) discovering that you may have ADHD in tandem with ASD.
