Hi everyone.

Glad to have found this place, it's great to read some authentic lived experience.

I'm a 48 year old male who has not entered the diagnosis process...yet. I'm a registered paramedic and thought I had a pretty good understanding of autism and ADHD until my own adult aged child began to struggle with MH and is now playing the long waiting game for assessment via the NHS after they suspected autism may be the cause.

Of course, I did what every concerned parent [should] do and jumped head-first into the literature and found a great study on Masking. It was like a light had been switched on in my cognitive recognition when so much of it rang true for myself. It wasn't just an element of confirmation bias, it was literally a line by line description of my whole life. Everything I have been dealing with since my earliest memories now seems to make more sense, all the difficulties I couldn't seem to find the words to describe now seem rooted combined autism and ADHD, and I'm keen to explore further.

Anyway, I'm prone to overshare and info-dump, and subsequent regret, so I'll leave it there for now.

See you in the community.
