Hi i'm looking for support really as my son was diagnosed with ASD in March this year and so far we've drawn a blank in terms of parental support. I'm looking to meet local mums in the stockport area with children who have high functioning autism. He is 8 years old and as a family we are really struggling to cope with his behaviour. We haven't told our son as yet or most of our family as we are still getting used to this ourselves although we have suspected for many years he had ASD, being told and having a diagnosis confirmed was actually very emotional and has been almost a shock to us bringing up such a range of emotions and questions.
I can't seem to find any support groups where parents meet up, I'd like some thoughts on telling your child of their diagnosis and also behaviour support. We are not sure to pay for private help - if so who can actually help us? we have been referred to ASD partnership who have referred us somewhere for assessment for help with i'm not sure what lol! if you are aware of anything that may help us please let me know. Thank you!
