I have arrived. (Only took 18 months!)

In true autistic fashion, it has taken me nigh on 18 months to finally join the group. I confess to have been hiding on the periphery, doing the usual shall I? Shan’t I? Also having spent 18 months in denial about my diagnoses feeling a whole host of emotions similar to Kublar Ross stages of grief.

The deciding factor that gave me the kick up the proverbial was reading a book last week by Fern Brady (strong female character). Her extensive self awareness helped me to feel less shame and to embrace my autistic nature. I was unable to photograph the book for reference because I removed and threw away the overlay cover, as I can’t stand them flapping about ;)

So here I am, looking forward to being part of the group and a thanks to you all, where you have unknowingly been a much needed support over the past year and a half.

  • Welcome Specialanddifferent! So glad you decided to join!

Like SilmarilCritter, I saw Fern on Taskmaster and had been thinking about getting her book as I thought she was great on the show. I think I will now!

I'm glad you have got to a point of self-acceptance, or at least self-forgiveness. These things can be so complex and we are all still just trying to figure it all out together!
