Yeah it can be scary, but he's still the same, just you now have more knowledge about how his brain works. Hopefully this will prove useful as you can play to his strength and get him help where he needs it. And he doesn't need to tell people if he doesn't want to, some kids feel quite private about it.
Reading books and finding good role models of other autistic people can help it feel a little more real, and connecting and chatting to other parents also helps you feel less alone dealing with it all.
