I would like to say HI

Hi I am Daniela and I am waiting for an assessment for ADHD/ADS/Autism. While I wait, which I expect to be a long time, I am reaching out to get help, understanding and support as well as practical tips on how to manage daily life. I often find this world confusing and overwhelming.

I don't have a large support network, my family live in Germany and both my parents have passed away.

  • That’s awesome that you have a friend who is also going through the assessment process! I bet that makes you feel significantly less alone. I understand what you mean about working with adults with learning difficulties and children being rewarding. It’s not easy though, lol. Takes a lot of patience and understanding.

  • Hi profdanger

Thank you for the warm welcome! I have been able to hold down a job, but it hasn't been easy and I change them quickly, I have done a lot of things over the past 30 or so years! The most rewarding job I have ever had was to work with adults with learning difficulties and children, I have worked in many schools over the past 20 years. Relationships and friendships are difficult but the right people have stuck by me / stuck around and it has filtered down to a bit more of a handful of amazing friends I can rely on and who know me so well! I am yet to be assessed, NHS waiting lists are very long and I have been told to go private, so fundraising is the way to go. I have a very good friend who is also waiting for an assessment and we are thinking of ways to raise money!

  • Hi Lotus, no worries, I appreciate you pointing that out to me. I am terrible at reading rules and it makes complete sense! I am just a very open and friendly person and thought a picture of myself might make me more  'real and approachable', but I see what you mean. Instead I have chosen a picture I took once of a mural on the side of a wall! I absolutely love it and sunflowers are my favourite flower. I am very arty and always appreciate beautiful art work.

  • Good morning from America, Daniela!

I’m sorry to hear that you’re a bit alienated with your family living so far away. Have you been able to get/maintain a job? That is sometimes a major stressor for Autistics, but it can also be a source of security and support. My job is to help disabled folk get jobs, so if you have employment questions I might be able to help a bit.

I hope that you find what you are looking for on this site!
