Looking for support and community

Hi, new here.

I’m 19 and was diagnosed with autism just over a year ago. Recently I’ve had some changes in my life and I think I’m struggling to adjust and it’s making me feel a little lonely because I don’t have anyone in my life who I feel will understand.

I started a new job and recently started seeing someone which I have never done before. I just feel overwhelmed and I’m struggling to build a routine that I can stick to. The slightest change to my schedule or any annoyance has been sending me into a meltdown.

Just looking for other people who may understand and have any advice. BlushBlush

  • Hi and welcome!

I think I had a similar experience a few years ago, when I left school and started working. It was a big adjustment and a difficult transition.

I found I needed to strip back the expectations on myself, and simplify my routine to things that need to be done or things that I really want to do. I tried doing everything all at once initially, and only felt distressed when I inevitably couldn't. Then there's potential to start adding things back in slowly. That's how I approached it anyway!

Hope you settle into the community here soon :)
