Hi all. I'm a 74 year old grandad to 18-month-old twins. I've long suspected they were on the autism spectrum as they are very slow learners and don't show any of the developmental signs: they don't easily make eye contact; they don't respond to their names; they don't copy and return gestures like clapping, pointing, high-fives, giving and taking, smiling back, etc. They don't help with putting their clothes on. One is just starting to feed himself using a spoon. He's not walking or standing. The other is walking. Both are non-verbal at the moment.
In short, they are very dreamy and don't easily interact socially. They don't go to nursery yet.
They haven't been properly assessed yet. A health visitor is arranging this assessment, but expressed concern that they are not developing normally.
I'd appreciate any advice you can give me about how to help them develop and learn. I see them once a week.
Thank you!
