Hello

Hello everyone.

I'm Tom and I'm new here.

I'm a drummer and like playing jazz and funk music. I also enjoy watching movies. My favourite film is The Bucket List with Morgan Freeman. I also enjoy going to the gym and meeting up with friends.

I have autism and was diagnosed early in life. I was working as a musician but am currently looking for voluntary work in other areas.

I would like to make new friends and connections.

Thanks and best regards.

  • Hey Tom - welcome!

Sounds like you've got a really solid mix going: jazz and funk on drums? That's cool - nothing like laying down a groove that makes people move. And The Bucket List... yeah, Morgan Freeman's voice alone could calm a storm.

Early diagnosis means you've probably figured out a lot about what works for you - gym for energy, friends for balance, music for... well, everything. Voluntary work's a smart step too; it's low-pressure, lets you test waters without the full-time grind.

You're already putting yourself out there - that takes guts. If you're up for it, what's your favourite jazz track to play? Or a movie scene that always gets you?

    Glad you're here.

  • Hi and thanks for your message and encouragement. I like playing along to a track called 'Jazz Crimes' by Joshua Redman. It has a nice groove. I also like the scene in 'Shawshank Redemption' where the opera singer starts singing and everyone stops and listens.

What are some of your favourite movies? Do you have any other hobbies or interests?

    Good to meet you.

Hello Tom, lovely to meet you properly.

‘Jazz Crimes’ by Joshua Redman is a great choice - that laid-back, swinging groove is perfect for drumming. I can imagine it feels really good to play along to.

The Shawshank Redemption scene you mentioned is one of my absolute favourites too. There’s something incredibly powerful about that moment when the music takes over the whole prison yard - it’s pure magic on screen.

As for my own favourites, here are a few I never get tired of:

    • The Shawshank Redemption (obviously!)
    • The Green Mile
    • Dead Poets Society
    • The Grand Budapest Hotel
    • Interstellar

I love films that explore hope, friendship, resilience, and the beauty of small human moments.

My other interests are quite simple: I enjoy long walks (especially when I can listen to the dawn chorus or the wind in the trees), reading, and learning about all sorts of different things. I also have a soft spot for good music -  anything from classical to jazz to old soul.

It’s really nice to meet you too. Would you like to tell me a bit more about your drumming, or maybe share another favourite film or jazz track?

    Looking forward to chatting more.
