Hi all,
After years of high anxiety and major difficulties getting into school we finally now have an autism diagnosis for my 11 year old daughter. She has been off school with EBSNA for months now and I’m not sure whether she will make it back there. Even day to day tasks and leaving the house are a big challenge for her. Including it it’s something she loves doing. She keeps saying her brain won’t let her and she feels forced. Having heard about PDA on a parenting course I really think that’s what the challenge is here. Traditional autism advice doesn’t work as structure and rules cause her a great deal of stress. Not sure how to get a diagnosis though as I’m not getting anywhere with the senco nor educational psychologist who is involved. I really feel like getting her back into school with the right support won’t happen unless this is acknowledged. No one else sees it as she masks and behaves elsewhere. She is always wanting to please even at home but often feels unable to. It’s like an internal battle for her. Is anyone else in a similar situation? How did they get a diagnosis of demand avoidance?
Many thanks,
Georgina
