Is autistic drunkiness a thing

So I recently went out for my bosses engagement. Only had one drink and stayed for a few hours. Afterwards had the feeling I was drunk. I asked chatGBT which came up with autistic drunkiness. But wondered if anyone else felt like this after masking during work social parties?

  • I've only ever been to one work do, but can relate. I don't drink, but felt drunk being around everyone who was drinking.

I wondered if it's like how sometimes you 'catch' someone else's emotions, could be adrenaline, or masking by copying other people's drunken behaviour to fit in

  • Thank you for your response, I glad I’m not alone in this. I went to a work social a long time ago when I used to work in kennels and didn’t feel the drunkenness then. Upon comparison to Friday night I wonder whether it was sensory overload from masking, trying to communicate, social awkwardness and that the music seemed to get louder or whether it just got worse the older we get. My ears ended up ringing and ended up with a headache and reduce executive functioning. It caused me to do nothing over the weekend which I hated.

  • I've replied separately about your experience in general. In specific respect of protecting your ears and hearing, you might also like to consider wearing earplugs during social engagements like that.

Many autistic people use Loop earplugs, which come in different versions, including one that's designed to reduce noise whilst still leaving it easy to talk with others. There's a discount link and more information in my profile, in case that's of interest.
