New member-introducing myself

Hello, Im mia. I l love cats, Disney, and crafting (particularly embroidery) at the moment. I was diagnosed with autism late last year. Although I already self identified, I feel the diagnosis has caused significant challenges in accepting myself. Im hoping that connecting with others may help me feel less alone in this journey.

  • Hi Mia, I'm Dave. I was diagnosed at the end of Jan, so still trying to get my head around it all. I actually only started to consider the possibility seriously in December last year, so this has all happened pretty quickly for me - I always just thought I was weird Face palm

It can certainly be disconcerting - I'm struggling at the mo to get a feel for how I mask etc. Is there any particular reason the diagnosis has caused challenges over when you were self-diagnosed?

Welcome to the community, hope you enjoy your time here and find the support you're looking for...

  • Hi, Dave. That is quick! I self identified for a couple years before I was diagnosed. Honestly I'm not really sure, perhaps feeling the grief of not knowing sooner. I'm a young adult and it was only picked up when i hit burn out part way through secondary school, so its hard coping with the emotions of wishing I'd known sooner/how different things could have been if that had been the case/ how id probably be kinder to myself if id understood sooner. I hope you manage through these difficulties, hopefully with the help of these forums. Thanks so much  :)
