Suspected Autism - ADHD, along with CPTSD

Hey, I’m recently joined this site trying to get some help or understanding.

im severely burnt out / in shutdown & have been for some months now.

id say im a very high masking individual, and struggle to reach out. I have been going through the same cycle or patterns my whole life. I have been trying to get professional help since 2017. Always diagnosed with mental health- anxiety, depression, depressive disorder. Etc etc.

I did a SARs for my medical records and got them recently , it’s really difficult for me to look through them, and I can see the glaring pattern, however drs don’t seem to look into it or notice them same patterns I see.

repeated adhd questionnaires, autism questionnaires. With high scores or results. I’m some what vulnerable , have no family and life has always been unstable. I’ve experienced homelessness 4 times, debt cycles, burnouts crashes, admitted into PDU . It’s relentless.

I really don’t know where to turn to or what to do anymore. I received a letter today been accepted for adhd assessment with a 4 year wait. Bear in mind I’ve been trying to get help since 2017 . 9 years now. I’ve previously been on waiting lists and they always reset from moving areas, or because I haven’t proactively chased them up myself I just slip through the cracks . I’ve had questionnaires lost multiple times through GPs, I been made to re take questionnaires because (the dr said) as I’ve been waiting so long they want to do the questions again to see whether it was worth putting the referral through.

I had a meeting with my MHP this week and was told there’s no point in seeking a diagnosis as it’s not going to change anything & that chasing my autism referral was pointless because there’s no support to be offered post diagnosis. They specifically want to chase the adhd referrals because then they can prescribe me medication for it.

it all seems so backwards to me , I enjoy watching the hidden 20% podcast and ADHD chatter podcast, which I relate to. It’s interesting to see leading professionals (guests) who have a more in depth insight into things.

So that’s a tricky subject. To a certain extent, they’re absolutely right. There isn’t medication you can take to help with Autism directly, and so care after diagnosis is fairly dismal. However, it can be helpful to have the diagnosis if you are looking for a therapist that has experience with Autistic individuals. Also, work accommodations are so hard to get, and even more so if you don’t have a diagnosis.

ADHD on the other hand there are at least meds that can help alleviate it. On top of that, you also get the benefit of finding an ADHD friendly therapist or getting work accommodations.

As an FYI, though: You don’t necessarily need a doctor’s permission to self-identify as Autistic. If you believe you are, then you are. You just don’t have the “official certificate” saying that you have it. So yeah, you’re more than welcome in an Autistic community such as this one.

I’m so sorry that the path so far has been so rocky. It sounds like you’ve been through a lot. I’m hoping the future has more joy and comfort in store for you.
