Newbie …super scared but figured I'd press send & see what happens. Hello x

My names Joey. Mads is my cat.

I was diagnosed with ASD last month aged 40 (after 20+yrs of diagnosis & misdiagnosis).

I love rescue animals, komodo dragons, needle felting, houseplants, skate trainers, photography, cycling, inline skating, reading private eye & listening to LBC.

Scared to do this but hopeful to chat to people who get it and can help a little.

Thank you.

  • Hello  Welcome to the community.

Congratulations on your diagnosis! I was late diagnosed just over a year ago, and I was misdiagnosed years before that.

You have lots of interests and I know that there are others here who share them. I like many animals but I have only two dogs.

  • Yeah, it's fun to think up questions for Mystery hour, I've never tried calling in though! I got my husband the mystery hour board game for Christmas-I got the travel addition as the board game cupboard is overflowing so the smaller box was welcome! (Plus it's a lot cheaper!)

It's a lot of fun, it gives weird questions and multiple choice answers -some answers are so surprising! It's just like listening to the show.

Yes I like the prehistoric, I was big into dinosaurs as a kid so the interest is still there in the background.

Don't worry about spelling/grammar - I'm always spelling things wrong or re-reading posts and realising they don't make sense or I've over-shared. No one really minds!

  • Hey yourself!

After writing them down they are eclectic to say the very least. The dragons are what seem like our last nod to the prehistoric.

Mystery hour is brilliant, I want to ask where squirrels live? I get chipmunks live underground but squirrels I've always wondered?!

My spelling and grammar is pants but after saving for a diagnosis I've run out of cash so it is what it is lol

Thx for the welcome. Take it easy.

  • 'Latelings' that sums it up perfectly, I've been called far worse!

I'm not surprised its taken 3yrs+ to know what it means to or for you? Especially when you've been someone else for more years than you've been diagnosed?!

Sure thing, I'm going to write stuff down as and when it comes to me. That's nice to know. I'd been waiting far too long to write my first post. Good to decompress and be strict with yourself.

    Have a decent evening.

    Joey.

  • Greetings from across the pond, Prof!…..Well I didn't want to leave any interests out lol

Thank you for reaching out, appreciate it. I definitely will when I think of what to ask?!

    Joey.

  • Good morning from America, Joey (/Mads)!

Congratulations on your diagnosis! Sounds like you have a wide array of interests, that’s awesome! If you have any questions, feel free to ask the community!

  • Hello and welcome to the 'Latelings' club.

I was diagnosed almost 3 years ago in my early fifties. It has taken me a long time to fully digest what it means for me. Still do not know if ever will.

Feel free to ask questions or browse previous topics for subject matter of interest to you.

It is a friendly community but there is no pressure to be continually posting. I tend to browse on a daily basis on weekdays. Weekends are my decompression days.

  • Hi Joey/Mads, welcome to the community!

You have a lot of very cool interest, like komodo dragons (they are so crazy aren't they, gigantic deadly and venemous). I listen to some LBC, though currently it's mostly just mystery hour with James O'Brien on a Thursday lunchtime!
