‘Who am I? ‘ kind of mood

Hey Wave how you guys/gals doing?

I’m new here. I’m trying to work out who I am, what I want and where to go from here generally speaking. I’m trying to do this by looking at everyone else to see if it means anything to me to relate to. I’m feeling kind of numb, lost and confused..it’s that kind of day. What are you supposed to do with yourself when in that kind of mood?  If I can figure it out maybe I can then help someone else later.

  • I think the answer is to do anything. Such as read a book, do some washing, clear a corner or a drawer, something to give you some focus.

I am not sure what causes it, maybe it is tiredness, thirst, hunger. Or some external trigger that makes you question what you are doing or makes you notice you are masking or feel different. I can't see a pattern.

  • I think that might be kind of normal. A result of masking most of your life. I think you can also read books and look at shows etc. and think if you would like something or not, would do x or not. I think it's like being a detective, about yourself. Find the clues to what you like and don't like and slowly gather together the case about who you are and where you fit in. I'm on that journey myself. I think podcasts about autism have helped me a lot.

I hope you enjoy finding yourself and helping the people you find along the way as well as at the end.

  • Good morning from America, JulieHolly!

If I can figure it out maybe I can then help someone else later.

That’s a good mindset to be in. Figuring yourself out so that you can help others is a great resolve to have.

If you’re feeling like learning about yourself by watching others, maybe a good book for you to read is “Unmasking Autism” by Devon Price. They do a great job of getting a wide variety of different Autists to chime in on their experiences in that book. This site is also a great place to see things from a lot of different perspectives.
