Hello everyone

Hi everyone,

My name is Lauren I’m new to joining and I’m kind of nervous.

I’m 32 and I received an Autism diagnosis at the age of 30. I have never really been good at fitting in with people due to issues with understanding how Autism presents in friendships but I want to meet people who may understand that I am just myself. I have tried to fit into online communities in past but never found one where I was able to stay comfortable without judgement or bullying and I’m hoping by joining I will find a way to take off some of the loneliness.

I have interests in various things including digital art (my pfp is one I drew myself) learning languages (in particular German), video games, walking in forests and nature and watching documentaries on many different topics (animals and wildlife in particular).

I work a shop job which I really like because they have been very supportive with any difficulty I have. It’s not a lot but it’s something I enjoy to help people who come in to the store and get to talk to them. I’m hoping here I will find peace and people to connect with.

  • Welcome  !

There is a creative space thread if you want to post anymore of your digital artwork, (I love doing art but don't have a lot of if time these days), lots of threads on video games, and feel free to start more nature ones, I'm a big nature documentary fan (was just watching one last night).

    Hope you can settle in!

  • Thank you for the warm and enthusiastic welcome! I am excited to share art and get to talk more with everyone! I hope you’ll get a chance to do art soon! Which documentary did you see?

  • I was catching up with Kingdoms, the one following 4 different predator families. I enjoyed the close look at their behaviour, but got a bit frustrated that it didn't mention the other species on screen as I like to know all of that too.

They did mention genets and I ended up researching them when I should have been going to bed. Like a large spotted genet was recorded on a camera trap in 2014 riding on the back of two different buffalo and a rhinoceros. The first recorded hitchhiking of the species.

  • That is so cool! I love to learn about the lifestyle and habits of animals too and I love getting to follow along with a family of animals too and I see how it all works within their dynamics.
I love that you guy to learn such an amazing fact about the little hitchhiker! Sometimes it’s worth looking up even if it would be nice if the documentaries went into more depth.
