Hello

Hello. My name’s Penny, I’m diagnosed with ASD but it was when I was 4 and was called Asperger’s Syndrome then. Not a lot has changed since my diagnosis, I think things have gotten worse but then there is a lot of stress in my life and that leads to a lot of masking but I’m trying to mask less and cope with things better.

My fave thing is Harry Potter. I’m a huge Harry Potter fan! It’s my special interest. I love all the books and movies and own a lot of Harry Potter collectables. Also enjoy gaming and spend most of my time playing The Sims 4..

I’m trying to get through life as an autistic adult and taking each day as it comes.

Nice to meet you.

Best wishes,

  • Hello! I hope you are having a nice warm afternoon. It’s wet and cold where I am.

I’ll have a look for the Sims 4 thread. Sounds like it’s my kind of thing! I also enjoy Nintendo games. I used to have Super Smash Bros Brawl on my Nintendo WIi but unfortunately I think it was taken to a jumble sale. *weeps* Lately my Nintendo game of choice has been Donkey Kong Bananza, I’ve been having a lot of fun on it.

Humankind sounds like a fun game. Have you played the Civilization games before? They’re strategy games and I love playing those. You might like them as well.

Thanks, that’s a good point and something to try and remember. I’m still waiting for the good changes to come.. most of the time it’s all bad stuff happening but then that’s probably me just looking at things negatively. Again and again. For some reason it’s like autopilot for my brain to see and focus on the negative stuff. Over thinking is such a pain sometimes! But then again I have joined this site now and already feel a little more positive now I’m around people who get what it’s like so I guess that’s something good I can add to the list.

Whoops sorry if I wrote too much in my reply.

  • Hello and thank you. I hope you enjoy Harry Potter when you get to see them. I’d recommend checking out the books as well, I think they are the best personally. You can now get illustrated versions which I’ve been steadily trying to collect. The Sims 4 is great. I’ve put in so many hours on those games.. I just bought the Spongebob kit pack as well. Have you tried it yet? I think it’s so cute having Spongebob furniture and items in my Sims game. I love Spongebob! Omg I think it’s an amazing show and I still love it now as much as I did when I was a kid.

What Nintendo games do you like playing? I like playing the Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, Splatoon and lately I’ve played a lot of Donkey Kong Bananza.

  • Hello Iain, thank you for the welcome.

I have a monthly re-watch of all the Harry Potter’s every month, a routine I started years ago and have done ever since. I agree with you completely, so much is in the books and I guess they couldn’t fit it all in to the movies. I love reading the books, there’s so many fun bits and facts that aren’t seen in the movies.

The TV series was a bit of a disappointment for me. Like you I wish they had explored other areas in the Potterverse, like they did with the Fantastic Beasts trilogy which is in a different time period and features a lot of unseen magic and animals. I was hoping they would do something like this again rather than remake the original story into a TV series. Maybe one day they’ll do another spin off for a different unseen part of the magical world.

Do you follow any of the fan fiction writers?

Yes I do! Some of the fan fiction is so well done and I would totally buy them if they were properly released books, it’s like it belongs in the official Harry Potter saga and should be being released. I think my fave is Lomonaaeren because they are so unique but FloreatCastellum also writes amazing stuff. Do you have a fave?

  • Hello there Penny!

You’ll find that there’s a number of people that enjoy Sims 4 on here. There’s even a whole thread about it! I personally spend most of my time playing Smash Bros and other Nintendo games. Though the last week I’ve been sucked into Humankind, a strategy game.

I think things have gotten worse but then there is a lot of stress in my life

Yeah that makes sense. From what I’ve heard what you experience from ASD can shift over time. Especially if you’re a young adult, there’s so much changes and stress that happen when you step into adulthood. Some things will change for the worse, some for the better. For example, when I was younger I used to abhor anything spicy, but now I am sensory seeking enough that I look for spicy foods from time to time. Just remember to be patient and kind to yourself.

  • Hello and welcome! I don’t watch too many films but I’ve been interested in the Harry Potter films as everyone seems to rave over them and tell me I’m missing out. I have also been playing sims 4 lately but im still quite new to it. I do have some expansion packs though and treated myself to the SpongeBob one at the weekend. I’m more of a Nintendo gamer myself.

  • Hello Penny and welcome to the community.

I've just finished a bit of a marathon re-watch of the HP films and will give the books a re-read before I watch the new TV series. I found there is so much missed out from the films that it is worth reading after watching to catch the details.

I do wish they had worked on some other spin off rather than remaking the books in TV format - there is a lot in that universe to explore.
