Hello

Hi there. I’m a 58 year old female who was diagnosed with ASD in June 2025. I self referred in an attempt to find out why I am like I am. It explains my whole life experience and still makes me well up that I’ve been diagnosed. Slowly owning this by coming out to work colleagues, following one of the most difficult weeks of my working life due to crippling anxiety.

Now that the door has been opened, I realise there is a host of support I can call on. But it’s the start of a journey and a little bit scary.

That’s a huge step to talk about your diagnosis with coworkers. That takes a lot of courage, since there’s a lot of misconceptions about Autism out there (especially here in the Midwest where I live). But I have also told several of my coworkers and they are able to help me when I have issues like high anxiety. It can be a very positive thing.

This is a great place to look for support as well, since there are a lot of people here with similar experiences to yours. So if you peruse this forum you can learn a lot about even yourself!
