Hi Everyone,
I'm new here. I have finally been diagnosed with Autism, ADHD & PTSD at 54yrs old. I like others on here with late diagnosis welcome the explanation of a lifetime of feeling/ being slightly different and a bit angry that its so late in life.
I wanted to ask if anyone else can advise on this:
I had the diagnosis from a Forensic Psychologist who compiles assessments for court trials. The psychologist is a Dr with 25yrs of experience. After much deliberation I decided to tell my GP. I have had a real mixed bag of treatment from the NHS over the years so was wondering if it was worth ;disclosing'. Anyway - yes today I visited my GP and explained the diagnosis from my therapist.
My GP explained that they may or may not accept the diagnosis - it depends what is in the report. The report from my Forensic Psychologist Dr Therapist will cost a lot of money. If its used by my GP then its worth it, if not its a lot of money for nothing.
There was no talk of referral to a psychiatrist for instance to get a 'NHS' evaluation.
I have sent my GP the link to my Forensic Psychologists web page which gives their qualifications, experience etc
I am wondering if anyone can lend any words of wisdom or advice how to proceed?
I have to say so far once over the shock of diagnosis its been really helpful to explain what is happening to me and has already made a positive impact on my daily life!
I have hope again!
Please be patient with me and responses to this post as I am getting used to how this works!
