Holiday Ideas for a 17 year old

Hi,  I have just joined this site, following two visits to my GP with my teenage son.  GP is in process of a referral to CAMS due to concerns autistic traits i.e Not wishing to make friends, finds talking stressful,  spending all his time on fantasy games at home, difficulty socialsing, going into new places. I would appreciate any advice for summer activity for a 17 year old.  My concern is the whole time will be spent on computers. P.S Dislikes groups!

  • I don't know, it's worth finding out what he likes doing or wants to do? Is he willing?--worth finding out where he's at---there might be more immediate concerns at hand than hanging out with friends if his on the verge of deep debiltaiting despair or something.

    Barring that I have to say I hate socialising, but I love sharing my interests, what is it about the fantasy games that he enjoys anyway?, could he perhaps design a fantasy game or make one, maybe illustrations, does he like art or music or movies or books, perhaps linking him with others or a job/work over the summer that relate to these interests might work? Role-play? Or maybe bring the people or interests to him somehow? What is it about socialising or new places specifically that troubles him? Perhaps eliminating the triggers or him finding and learning to stay within his tolerance threshold would help.

    How is he with family and the family with him? I think having supportive people around you is the most important thing at the end of the day, is he more tolerant around family? There's lots of festivals and fairs on this summer, maybe a family trip to the beach or cinema? What about outdoorsy things, how is he around animals, what about gardening, sports? martial arts? dance? yoga? Your coucil website should have news of events and activities that should help. People do all sorts of silly things online nowadays where they have activites/challenges, do stuff and share it so he can take part in activities without having to actually meet people, you know crawling before you can walk.

    Just tossing things out there, really wish you and your son good luck over the summer.
